[To Blog Main]
The development is not new, the rush is. Getting paid for blogging has acquired a dimension that was not envisaged even a year back. But then a year is a fairly long time in the fast-paced world of web development.
The other day I chanced upon a website that deals on blogging jobs alone. That may seem surprising but the cooking, according to those in the know, has been going on for quite a while. So what the big game is in the world of blogging?
The straight answer to the question will be that there is phenomenal money to be had in blogging sites. The early birds like Problogger have already chalked up sizable revenue for themselves, and the lure is too real to ignore.
On the flip side here is an excellent chance for content writers to make money by getting paid for blogging for other websites. Though there is no dearth of writers per se, yet the sites that hire them tend to continue with the same batch if only not to disturb the rhythm already in vogue. After all there is no dearth of competing blog sites too.
There are many sites that regularly publish blogging jobs that are up for grabs. We will come to that but let us first find out what are the things you need to know in case you have landed a blogging job.
Consistency Matters
Writing for your own site is one thing, it's different when you write for others. If there are guidelines given, you have to stick to it. For example, if you are getting paid for blogging on homemade recipes and the rule says you've to mention exact measures of ingredients, you need to do that even if you've never made a recipe yourself.
Timeliness
Come what may, you cannot afford to delay sending your post even by half a day. It's a dog's world out there. The more a blog publishes in a regular pattern, the more it is able to attract and retain eyeballs. Thus if the blog you're writing for has a particular schedule for your posts, you have little choice than to be ready with your posts well within deadline.
Redoing Once Or Even More
Remember you are getting paid for blogging for someone else. This means there is good possibility that you may have to redo a post you've done. You may think it's the best that can be but the blog-owner may feel otherwise.
In which case you have to gulp down your ego and write whatever the blog-owner wishes. Sometimes this may happen more than once. And after you've put your labor twice or more for the same post you may still be held responsible for missing the deadline.
Sacrificing Your Blog
Do you own and run one or more blogs of yours? If so, chance is you may not be able to devote enough quality time for them. If that hurts, perhaps a better alternative will be to take assignments for not more than 2 posts a week.
There is another problem. If the blogging job requires you to write on topics altogether different from what your blogs deal on, it may affect your writing your own blogs over the long term.
Adding On Experience
Contrary to the above point, when you write on different topics, it opens up your ability to multi-task, which in turn adds to your experience. You stand to gain lots of knowledge, and may be you can leverage on that in future for some decent additional income.
Getting Known
If the blogging job you land up allows your postings in your name - as against ghost writing - you have a real chance to get known to a wide cross-section of readers. Who knows you may be picked up for a lucrative assignment by one of the readers of that blog!
Enhancing Abilities
The adage says, the more you use a knife the more it gets sharpened. Human ability is similar to that. In other words, when you write more and on varying issues you enhance your overall writing skill and ability.
Sites For Blogging Jobs
The 2 most prominent blogging job sites are Problogger Job Board and Performancing's Blogger Jobs. The latter has a sister site that too gives you a list of blogging jobs on offer. You may also take a look at the all-time favorite Craigslist.
Aside from these there are sites like Shvoong and Blogit where too you will be getting paid for blogging albeit not the way the regular blogging jobs offer you.
All in all, it has never been as rosy for paid blogging as it is now. The scope can only enlarge in the future as more and more blogs feel the need of regular contents. Why wait, get going!
