Thanks to easy availability of software and service provider, it is not difficult to start website building. If you drop some food particles in a pond full of fishes, you'd see the hustle among finned creatures rushing in to wherever their foods float.

It's a near-similar scene in website building.

Just drop a faint hint that you need a website, and there will be no dearth of experts to help you out. There are many web designers, content writers (like me) and search-engine-optimizers, each of whom would claim he knows all there is to know.

There is every chance you'll be sucked into a vortex of suggestions and opinions, and before you decide what's it you actually need, you'd have probably written your advance check to an expert.

Lest you think I'm a typical fence-sitting skeptic, let me come clean. It's not that you don't need a web designer, a content writer or a search-engine-optimizer.

But before you need any of them, you need to know what your website will be. In other words, the first step before you start website building is to understand why you need it anyway, and how you are going to shape it up so that it fulfills your long-term goals.

Too many website building happen without sound logic and homework only to soon fade unnoticed. What is mostly overlooked is that a website ought to have a well-thought direction to grow and thrive.

Which means you need some sort of what I call 'pre-research' before you plunge into actual website building.

Okay, so where do we start? I've with me a free video action guide for website building that will take you through the steps of knowing why you need a website and what steps you ought to take to make it a success.

What does the guide say about website building? Here they are in brief.

Why you need a website?

In most cases, a website is started to earn money by offering product or service. Nothing offbeat except that it's lot simple said than done. Why?

Since your earning can only come from expenses made by visitors who will come to your site, it is but natural that your website is able to attract them in the first place.

Which means your website must have something in it so that visitors feel compelled to come, and then again feel compelled to buy your product or service.

That something is content

When visitors come to your website they look for information, which is made up of solid contents. If they do not get it, they simply leave your site.

Going by this logic, the fundamental aspect of website building is generating information-rich content that provides value to the time spent by your visitors. If you cannot provide it, someone else will, and people will go to other websites, not yours.

But perhaps content alone may not bring in money or other benefit you're looking for. To achieve that, your content has to 'pre-sell'.
