Ever thought your writing strategy can make your viewers build your fortune? Did that seem far-fetched? Not really, if you permit it to sink within.

We know sound writing strategy lends an upper hand to a website that can fetch good returns. If web content lacks edge, it's more like a wasted opportunity. For, if the writing strategy is such that it doesn't evoke interest and curiosity among viewers, they'll have no reason to stay back. To extend this logic, it follows that the writing strategy of a site reflects its readiness to make the ground fertile for focused content development plan, which will be directed toward benefiting the visitors, thereby benefiting the site-owner.

Here are some proven ways for sustaining a long-term writing strategy:

Headlines Are Important

The short span of time that a typical web visitor gives to a page needs to be fully utilized. What else but a compelling heading can do that? Some say it's an art, but I feel a good headline is more of common sense. Are headings like "10 sure ways.." or "5 steps to.." applicable to your page-content? If yes, you're in luck. Because, no matter what, such headings do induce viewers to scan a page. If however your content doesn't fit with this sort, you've to tickle your creative mind to come up with equally compelling headline.

Okay, you've an effective heading. You now need to follow up on that with some spicy sentences in the first 2 paragraphs as part of your writing strategy.

Keywords

Keywords' importance needs no reiteration. Suffice it to say that today's writing strategy warrants use of 2-word, 3-word and 4-word keywords, because 1-word KWs are too competitive to bring any return, if any.

That said, keywords chosen ought to be commensurate with overall wrtiting strategy. Out-of-focus KWs, even if lucrative, do not add real value, and it's better to keep away from them.

Coming to keyword finding and exploring tool, 2 of my favorites are Google AdWords Keyword Tool and GoogSpy. To use Google's tool, which is an excellent free help, one has to sign in as Google AdWords user. GoogSpy on the other hand is also free and provides good value for the time you spend using it.

Writing Strategy - Substance Matters

So you've a solid headline, backing it with interesting initial paragraphs on the back of well-chosen KWs. What comes next is highly informative content. Many site-owners pay least attention to this. But it's a mistake, for if web visitors, influenced by opening glamor, find the webpage lacking substance, it will be akin to 'cheating' them.

The Web-logs

Nothing is more important a writing strategy than to build up content-rich website based on inputs sourced from web-logs. Web-logs speak unpainted truth and clearly inform how a website features in terms of several important aspects - where your visitors are coming from, which pages they see, what they click on, how long they live within your site's confines, and so on. The truth is log files are perhaps the single-most useful resource for planning and revising your writing program.

Apart from the tracking tools that come free with any hosting plan, my 2 favorites are Google Analytics (which is free) and MyBlogLog (now owned by Yahoo!). The latter has a no-frill free version and a paid one that is inexpensive.

What Then

Website optimization (both on-page and off-page) is yet another pillar of writing strategy, but it's a different issue that needs careful look-in. However, let it not escape attention that any plan notwithstanding, contents and lots of it will continue to be the backbone of a good writing program.
